The story behind the songs: Part 2

Blog 3:

Part 2: The story behind the song…..this time I (Susan) will discuss the upbeat, hopeful songs on our debut album, Anthracite.

Waiting In The Wings: I wrote these lyrics for my youngest daughter and my niece. I want them to know that there’s a lot out there, waiting in the wings, and I hope they have good lives. “May you never have to worry, may you never have a sleepless night. May you never have troubles or demons you have to fight.

May you never wait for the shoe to drop or the building around you to fall. May you never have to lie awake waiting for that midnight call.”

But at the same time, we are going to get what we get: Chorus: “call it what you want or don’t call it anything. We get what life has given us just waiting in the wings.”

Walking Backwards:  although the song sounds like what the title suggests… Backsliding…   “Like finding darkness after daylight shone, walking backwards, drinking alone.
(Living, sleeping, being, dancing alone)”     It also ends with the hopefulness that things will get better.  “…something makes me start again.”
